Volunteer
SCMNFR’s volunteers help process recovered produce and meats and assemble ready-made meals for distribution by community partners. This is a great way to catch up with friends while making a BIG difference for our community, and no experience is necessary. We have projects for volunteers ages 12 years and older. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
We have the following additional volunteer opportunities on an as-needed basis:
- Meal Delivery – We make weekly deliveries of ready-made meals from SCMNFR to distribution partner ECHO Food Shelf. Deliveries are made using the Wooden Spoon van, so volunteers do not need their own vehicle. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
- Heavy Lifting Projects – We have a occasional scheduled projects that involve heavy lifting, such as reorganizing our freezer and delivering equipment to partner organizations.
- Food Donation Unloading – We receive calls from delivery truck drivers with food to be recovered. We get very little warning about these deliveries and need volunteers we can activate for unscheduled help unloading food from the delivery trucks. This work typically involves heavy lifting.
